THE PROCESS
We begin by listening to your goals and looking carefully at your teeth. Then we explain the stages, the appointments involved and how we will support you throughout.
We examine your teeth, bite and gums, listen to your goals and discuss whether Invisalign, fixed braces or another approach suits the movements required.
Digital scans, photographs and radiographs where indicated help assess anatomy and create a proposed sequence of movements. You will be told what a simulation can and cannot predict.
Your aligners are fitted and you learn how to wear, clean and change them. Attachments, interproximal reduction or adjustments may be advised where clinically appropriate; progress is reviewed.
Some cases need refinement aligners or additional stages. When active treatment ends, we discuss fixed or removable retainers and how to maintain alignment over time.

Custom aligners are removed for eating and cleaning. They work best when worn as directed, typically for most of the day, with attachments or refinements where necessary.
A fixed appliance does not rely on removing and replacing aligners. Depending on the tooth movements and bite, fixed treatment may provide more suitable control.
If teeth are misaligned, moving them first may reduce the amount of restorative material required. We explain whether alignment alone meets your goals or whether a combined plan is justified.
We will talk through the possibilities and agree what feels right for your individual circumstances.
SUITABILITY
We assess crowding, gaps, the bite, tooth roots, gum health, existing restorations and the movements required. Invisalign may suit many cases, but some complex movements or skeletal discrepancies require other options or specialist planning.
Daily wear is a real commitment. Aligners are typically worn around 20–22 hours per day when prescribed, removed for meals and cleaning. Inconsistent wear can affect tracking and prolong treatment.
Healthy gums and teeth are important before starting. Where gum disease, untreated decay or a significant bite problem exists, we explain how that affects the sequence and scope of care.

Some tooth movements need small tooth-coloured attachments to help the aligners grip. BALANCED CLINICAL ADVICE
We will talk through aligner wear, attachments, possible refinements and retainers so you have a realistic picture of treatment. We will also explain which orthodontic approach gives your teeth and bite the best opportunity to respond well.
Aligners can initially affect speech or cause temporary soreness. Attachments may be visible, and some tooth movements can be slower or less predictable than a computer animation suggests.
Like other orthodontic treatments, there are risks involving gum health, dental roots, tooth sensitivity, temporary bite changes and relapse. Your clinician assesses your individual risk and discusses the need for monitoring.

LONG-TERM RESPONSIBILITIES
Remove aligners for meals and drinks other than water unless your clinician advises otherwise. Clean teeth before reinserting them and follow the specific aligner-cleaning instructions supplied.
Attend scheduled reviews and tell the team if an aligner does not seat properly or if there is persistent pain. Do not unilaterally jump to the next tray.
Teeth can move after treatment, particularly without retention. Expect long-term retainer wear, periodic checks and occasional replacements as advised.
